“2026: A Turning Point for Our Climate — And Our Shared Humanity”
Climate change is no longer a future threat it is shaping our world today. In 2026, rising heat and extreme weather remind us that our choices matter. This moment calls for unity, responsibility, and collective action. Protecting the Earth is protecting each other, and every step toward sustainability is a step toward peace.

witnessed a sharp escalation in global conflicts and crises, as the international stage was marked by political and security turmoil with direct humanitarian and economic repercussions. A major confrontation erupted between Israel and Iran, becoming one of the most dangerous conflicts in the Middle East as both sides exchanged military strikes amid fears of regional war expansion. At the same time, the war in Ukraine dragged into its fourth year without meaningful progress in peace talks, turning into a prolonged war of attrition that weighed heavily on Europe and beyond. In Gaza, clashes between Israel and Palestinian factions continued, accompanied by a suffocating humanitarian crisis that severely impacted civilians. Sudan’s civil war persisted, leading to state collapse and worsening refugee flows, while Myanmar saw intensified fighting between the military and armed opposition, causing mass displacement. The Democratic Republic of Congo also experienced escalating battles between government forces and militias in the east, and in May 2025, a brief military clash between India and Pakistan raised global alarm given their nuclear arsenals. Humanitarian consequences were severe, with conflict-related deaths rising by 23% compared to the previous year to nearly 240,000, alongside millions of displaced people suffering famine and disease. On the geopolitical front, divisions deepened with the return of U.S. President Donald Trump, straining relations among major powers and weakening prospects for cooperation. Economically, wars in the Middle East and Europe drove up energy and food prices, further destabilizing global markets. In sum, 2025 was a year defined by intensifying conflicts, failed diplomacy, and widening international fractures, leaving the world more vulnerable to humanitarian and economic crises. -Alyassin
